Tree Felling on Headley Way

It has come to our attention several trees alongside the new Headley Way cycleway are being felled by subcontractors for the City Council.

We are investigating the exact circumstances, but to our knowledge neither City nor County Councillors were informed in advance of this work. Oxford Direct Services have explained their work on Twitter, citing damage to the trees’ roots; however, we are pressing them to publish their assessment and to explain why work was commenced without prior consultation.

City and County Councillor Roz Smith previously campaigned successfully to retain these trees from felling in the course of the County’s ongoing Access to Headington transport upgrades, and will be seeking assurances that any future work of this kind goes before councillors in advance.

20 March 2019, 11 am – 3 pm

Main Forum, John Henry Brookes Building, Oxford Brookes Univeristy

A Headington resident reported a new scam after being called by them himself, as reported by the Oxford Mail on 12 March. The scam involves a call from perpetrators pretending to be from BT and tries to trick callers out of their credit card details. They demand money for unpaid bills from customers, and involves disconnecting the line to prove they are from BT.

All members of the community are invited. The event is being held by Thames Valley Police and members of the Neighbourhood Team will be there to answer questions.

Headington stabbing

It is with shock and sadness that we learned about the stabbing at the Headington Co-op yesterday afternoon. A young women was treated on the scene and taken to the JR. We understand her condition to be serious but not life threatening. Our thoughts are with her and her family.

We thank all the members of the emergency service for their quick response and the members of the community who helped. We have been reassured that the incident is not linked to the recent murder in East Oxford or any other organised criminality, and that there is therefore no risk of any wider community impact.

Police continue to search for the offender who is described as black, of large build with short dark hair. He was wearing a bomber jacket and a tracksuit at the time of the incident. There will be an increased police presence for the next few days and residents are encouraged to stop and speak to the officers if they have any questions or concerns. Police warn not to approach the attacker but to call 999 instead. If you have any information please call 101 or use the online service.
