The name “Willow Close” (or “The Willows”) was voted the most popular suggestion for the new Barton Road development street name by 37 residents at last week’s Headington Ward Focus meeting. We have sent this result through to the City Council as part of the consultation.

More delay for the Library!
The County Librarian has written the following today:
We are sorry to announce that a delay to the building works means that Headington library will now be closed from Monday 23rd June 2014 until Saturday 12th July 2014. We apologise for any inconvenience caused.
The Grand Opening will now be on Monday 14th July when we will stay open until 5.00pm instead of closing at our usual time of 1.00pm.
Kerbside collection of small electrical items
You can now recycle electrical and battery powered items at the kerbside. All electrical items can be recycled: whether they plug in, charge up, or are battery powered.
If items are small enough to fit into a carrier bag they can be placed on the lid of your green or blue wheeled bin for collection on your normal collection day.
Once the items are collected they get broken up and the different types of plastics and metals are recycled.
Larger items that won’t fit in a carrier bag, such as vacuum cleaners, televisions, fridges and washing machines can be collected on the bulky waste service or taken to one of Oxfordshire County Council’s household waste recycling centres.
To find out more information visit www.oxford.gov.uk/electricals.
Reminder: temporary closure of Headington Library
Headington Library will be closed from 23 June to 3 July inclusive. It reopens on Friday 4th July.
Your chance to name a road!
A new road name is being sought for the development on the site of the former cricket ground in Barton Road.
Suggestions so far are:
- Bradley Close
- Willow Close
- Orchard Way (or Place)
- Lime Tree Close
- Horse Chestnut Grove
- Conker Close
- Oak Grove
We shall be asking residents at our next Ward Focus meeting on Tuesday for feedback (and any other suggestions)
Road surface concerns – Old High Street
Altaf and Ruth have requested a highways reassessment of the road surface in Old High Street which is starting to wear badly. Once this is done in 2-3 weeks time, we shall know what priority of repair will be assigned to it by Oxford City Council.
Ward focus meeting next Tuesday
Our next Headington Ward Focus Meeting will take place on Tuesday 24 June at Headington Baptist Church from 6.00-7.30 pm.
Our guest speakers are from Waitrose and from Thames Valley Police. The Waitrose representative will speak about their plans for the Shell Filling Station in London Road, and Thames Valley Police will fill us in on police staffing changes and what actions they are taking on enforcing 20mph limits.
All welcome! Ward Focus meetings are run on a drop in and out basis and are free of charge. There is an open session where residents can raise issues of concern.
