Barclay’s Bank puddles – nothing to do with poor drainage!!!?

Monday 10 June 2013

Monday 10 June 2013

It doesn’t happen often, but your councillors are rendered speechless by the latest County Council response about the London Road puddles (see reply in full below).

Following your question to the above meeting regarding drainage issues on London Road and your additional query regarding the area outside of Barclays Bank.

We have carried out surveys in the area and do not believe that the problem lies with the drainage system.  We are going to have a level survey carried out and assessed to see if the cause of the occasional problem is the cross section of the area.  We have viewed photographs after some heavy rainfall and the water appears to be draining away and we have not recently received many complaints about this area at present.  We will monitor the situation and evaluate after the next downpour.  Meanwhile, if anyone has photographs we would be happy to see the extent of the issue.

Clearly the County Council thinks the surface water flooding has nothing to do with the drains being on top of a concave camber so that water has to flow uphill to drain away.

If you have any more photos of this area of Headington when it’s underwater, please send them to us and we will be more than pleased to pass them on.

Up The Junction latest

Roz and Altaf celebrate!

Roz and Altaf welcome the long awaited improvements

The County Council will start works at the junction of Lime Walk and All Saints Road on 7 April.  It will replace the existing timber bollards with new ones that have improved reflectors.  It will also install solar powered keep right/keep left traffic signs on each of the build outs to ‘improve driver awareness’. The estimated completion date is 11 April.

Headington Neighbourhood Area – can Stansfeld be included?

The short answer is NO.

Nothing would have delighted the Headington Neighbourhood Forum more than to have included Stansfeld in a forthcoming neighbourhood plan, but there are criteria governing what is included or excluded within a proposed neighbourhood area boundary.

Land within a parished area cannot be included within the Headington Neighbourhood Area.  Stansfeld falls within the Risinghurst and Sandhills Parish Council area boundaries.

Stansfeld could be included within a Risinghurst and Sandhills Parish neighbourhood area, if the parish decides to develop one, and this might potentially safeguard its future in terms of what the land could be used for. County Cllr Roz Smith has been pushing for this to happen. But Stansfeld cannot fall within the Headington Neighbourhood Area.

This information has been checked with Oxford City Council today and is entirely consistent with policy guidance given previously.
