Residents in Stephen Road have understandably complained that lines of sight to London Road are sometimes obstructed by lorries delivering to Tesco and that this is a safety hazard. Sometimes the lorries park on double yellow lines or cross-hatching.
Tesco Customer Services have sent the following reply to councillors:
I have been chasing this up with the store and Muller. Shift leader (redacted) has been helping us with this. It was explained to the driver a lot of times not to park where he was parking, but with no avail. [The shift leader] (redacted) contacted Muller and everything was explained. The drivers manager is now being spoken to and this problem is being dealt with. You should see the difference in the parking.
Please let us know if you see this happening again as we now have a contact at Tesco to get this resolved.
It parks there even when the loading bay 30 yards away is empty.
This is useful to know Bob, thank you Ruth
Thank you for this Ruth – I emailed Roz Smith abouth this a couple of weeks ago (sounds like i contacted the wrong person!).
I cycle this way at 06:15, 3 or 4 times a week and frequently there is a lorry parked here. The other morning the Sainsbury’s lorry opposite couldn’t park in their designated bay and with the Tescos lorry parked illegally it meant that a London bound coach had to swing out at a very tight angle (due to the lorry parking very close to the pedestrian crossing).
Thanks. I have spoken to the night manager about this, she says she turned down a milk delivery because of poor parking by the lorry driver. We’re trying to get them to deliver in smaller vans and at different times but there are big language and communication problems still
Just to let you know Ruth that obstructions were present yesterday and today at ~ 06:30.
When the store first opened delivery lorries parked outside the vacant Morrisons. Is there a reason why that stopped?
Thanks for letting me know, Ling. I will chase again R
06/06/2017 @ 06:15am – Tesco lorry (actually Tesco, not Muller) parked on main road when loading bay was empty.
Thanks, noted. One neighbour is sending me daily photos which helps a lot!
