  1. Sally Despenser says:

I did not know about the resurfacing.
I have just had a bruising encounter with the “gang” leader of the resurfacing team. Bald and short, he was supervising 2 men with flame and vibrating hammer near the east pedestrian entrance to the car park (near the disabled bays). There were no signs for (walking) cyclists to access the cycle racks from that direction, and they were in fact inaccessible beyond barriers. I locked my bike to one barrier, and he told me to move it. There was no courtesy. I could not access the racks without going back past the hammer, which (for medical reasons) I was reluctant to do. I asked how I was to get there and was told “Just move it”. I asked his name, and he refused (twice) to give it. I asked him what he had to hide and he walked off.
I should also point out that none of the 3 men was wearing ear defenders. One of the City Council workmen was kind to me and said the man worked for OD. Another customer told me that he had expereince of rudeness from the same man.

    • I’m really sorry to hear about this, Sally. This is the second complaint we have had, there have also been concerns raised that no disabled parking bays were accessible at one stage in the works. I’ll respond when I have further details, it sounds as though the City Council needs to investigate this with the contractors. R
